NEWCASTLE DUO PRAISED FOR CHELSEA DISPLAY

Two Newcastle United players have received praise from their manager for their display during the Premier League clash with Chelsea at the weekend. The league duel between Newcastle United and Chelsea was the first game of matchday nine in the English top flight this season and it ended with the Blues taking all the points on offer.

Newcastle United were conveniently beaten 2-0 by hosts Chelsea who ended at the league summit after the game. The Blues were replaced at the top of the Premier League by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur hours later following their 2-0 home win over Manchester City.

Federico Fernandez put through his own net under pressure from Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell very early in the game to put the Blues in the driving seat before Tammy Abraham scored a second goal for the Blues to secure the points in the 65th minute. England international Tammy Abraham has now scored in his last three games in the league and he would be hoping to continue in that rich vein of form when his team entertains Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in the next league game for the two title challengers.

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce struggled to mention the positives from the performance of his team despite a better outing in the second half of the game. In his post-match presser, the ex-Birmingham City, Sunderland and Wigan Atheltic manager was asked about the positives from the game. In his response, he singled out striker Joelington and Sean Longstaff as the best players from his team. Joelington has hardly been a world-beater since his £40m signing from TSG Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga and he led the line for the Magpies against Chelsea in the absence of Callum Wilson, the Newcastle United topscorer. Sean Longstaff has made the starting XI in recent weeks and has justified his selection.
