Everton came into their game against Newcastle United with the poorest record in the division over the last four months. They had a record of one win in their last 13 league games and the loss to Newcastle United earlier this week made it one win in their last 14 league games. The solitary win came against Arsenal as they overturned a late first half deficit to beat the Gunners 2-1 at home.

The first half of the Premier League game between hosts Newcastle United and Everton was all about the own goals after the two teams scored an own goal each to ensure that both teams went into the half-time break with a goal apiece. Everton defender Mason Holgate scored an own goal to open the scoring for Newcastle United off the assist from home team skipper Jamaal Lascelles who would then score an own goal within a minute off the assist from the aforementioned Holgate for the Everton equaliser.

Newcastle United secured the three points on offer with two goals in the second half through Scottish winger Ryan Fraser and new signing Kieran Trippier. England international Trippier was one of the five new signings made at Newcastle United last month and he scored his first goal for the his new club against the Toffees.

With the win over Everton, Newcastle United are now 17th on the 20-team Premier League log with 18 points and one point off opponents Everton in 16th spot. Also, the Magpies are one point and one place better than Norwich City who are third from bottom (18th spot).
