SPURS JOIN LUCAS PAQUETA RACE

North London giants Tottenham Hotspur are the latest team to join the race to sign highly rated Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta who plays his club football at French top flight team Lyon. Spurs have joined North London rivals Arsenal and fellow Premier League team Newcastle United in the race to sign the Brazil senior team player.

The interest of Tottenham Hotspur in Paqueta was revealed by English publication Football London. It was also reported that Newcastle United are also interested in the player. Italian publication Calciomercato confirmed the interest of Arsenal in Paqueta.

Spurs were said to have looked at the possibility of boosting their midfield options withPaqueta. There are four central midfield options at Tottenham Hotspur at the moment and they are Rodrigo Bentancur, Harry Winks, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp. England international Winks has been linked with a move away from the club as stated by the Daily Mail and his exit could leave manager Antonio Conte with limited options in the midfield department. Also, Skipp has a well documented injury record especially from the just concluded season thus leaving Conte with the tried and trustedduo of Bentancur and Hojbjerg.

Newcastle United are the new moneybags in the Premier League and they are keen on signing a new midfielder this summer and Lyon star Paqueta is a target. They have already signed a midfielder in Bruno Guimares during the winter transfer window earlier this year. Paqueta and Guimares played together at French top flight team Lyon before the latter signed for Newcastle United in January. Paqueta could reunite with Guimaresat club level if he signs for the Magpies. Paqueta and Guimares are teammates for the Brazilian national team.

North London side Arsenal are also in the market for a new midfielder this summer and Paqueta is one of their options.
