FULHAM CLOSE GAP ON NEWCASTLE

Newcastle United are looking over their shoulders in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season after the recent two results picked up by Fulham, who are in the relegation zone. Newcastle United are in the final safe spot in the league and were ten points ahead of Fulham in the final relegation place as at the weekend. Before last weekend’s set of games, Fulham had 15 points from 22 games, while Newcastle United had 25 points from 23 games in the league.

Fulham were able to pick up four points from their last two matches in the Premier League, including their outstanding game at Burnley on Tuesday night, to close the gap on the Magpies on the league table. On their part, Newcastle United were on the end of a defeat in their game against Chelsea on Monday.

Newcastle United are stuck on 25 points after the 2-0 defeat at the home of Chelsea. Olivier Giroud came on in place of the injured Tammy Abraham in the first half and the Frenchman was responsible for the opening goal of the game before the win was sealed with the second Chelsea strike from Timo Werner, who’s back in form after a difficult few months. Timo Werner was able to score his first league goal of 2021 against the Magpies. On their part, Fulham secured an excellent 2-0 win at the home of Everton and a 1-1 draw at the home of Burnleyin their two league games this week. Nigerian striker Josh Maja was the difference as he scored twice against Everton to hand his team victory on his full debut for the club. The Everton game was the best performance of the current Premier League campaign for Fulham. In the second game, the second half strike from Ola Aina was cancelled out by Burnley striker Ashley Barnes. Fulham have 19 points as things stand, while Newcastle United have 25 points ahead of the new set of games in the league this weekend.
