    Hey, much appreciated. Hugo Viana fans are a rare species now. I’ll maintain he is a classy player, too bad his carreer went downhill after being burnt at Newcastle.

    DiosEol Thank you so much for putting up this vid of such an amazing player. I used to watch Newcastle’s 2002/2003 season dvd all the time, and every time it got to a part in a game where Viana had the ball i’d literally rewind his ‘Viana moments’ over and over again just because i can’t get enough of how elegantly he moves the ball. If he played in the centre of midfield just behind the two strikers he would have been amazing! The two freekicks at the end of your clip rivals Becks!! 🙂

    @srk4manu Yeah i do agree with you there, and its a shame that things didn’t work out for Viana. I think if things did work out well for him at Newcastle he’d probably be playing for one of the top teams in the prem now. I’ve never seen such an elegant passer of the ball, and what a deadly left foot.

    Viana was absolute class.

    Should never of signed for Newcastle and never at such a young age. Real shame, he should of be at the level of Sneijder, Xavi, Fabregas by now.

    @Bennyboy138 its actually a habit among many managers to play sublime playmakers on the left wing………it works for some doesn’t or others……..alex hleb started out as a playmaker………but over time his managers at vfb and arsenal deployed him on the left wing with the hope that they would dictate play from the left , which is a good tactic………tomas rosicky is a success……..unfortunately it didnt work out for ppl like viana.

    Such a fantastic player. As a Newcastle fan it pisses me off thinking about when Viana was either on the bench or being made to play out on the left wing. He was always on the bench because Laurent Robert and Gary Speed had more experience then him, but Bobby Robson as great of a manager as he is was kept playing him in the wrong position ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I think that if he was consistently being played in a central midfield role he would have become one of the best midfielders in the prem
