Gutierrez Poised for Europe

Newcastle United winger, Jonas Gutierrez, was a key figure in the side that qualified for the Europa League, last season, and now the Argentine is looking forward to the competition.

The Magpies, under manager, Alan Pardew, worked wonders last term, and superseded expectations of even their most positive supporters on Tyneside, as they finished in fifth place in the top flight.

With European football returning to Newcastle, there is a real buzz around the potential of this team, which has gone through some tough times in recent years, having endured a year in the Championship. Now things are on the up, Gutierrez is looking forward to the Europa League and believes the club deserve to be in the competition, following their exploits from last season.

United are a 20/1 bet to claim the Europa League title, according to the online betting on Bet Victor.

He told Chronicle Live: “It’s really important that we have made it into Europe. When you think back to what people were saying about us at the start of last season, it is a huge statement. Nobody expected us to get there. There were a lot of changes in the dressing room and a lot of new players who came in, but we had a really good season.”

The real test for the Magpies will be whether they can repeat their strong season, last term, and much will rest on whether Pardew can keep hold of his key players. With the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiotem and Demba Ba being linked with moves away from St James’ Park, it is vital that players remain with the North East outfit, if they want to stand any chance of progressing and building for the future.
