DERBY DRAW

The Premier League match played between Newcastle United and Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday has finished in the form of a draw. Both the teams managed to score one goal each. After gaining one point, Sunderland has now moved up to no. 14 in the points table with 8 points in seven matches. On the other hand, this one point took Newcastle United to no. 11 in the points table with 10 points in 8 matches.

The Newcastle United team had performed pretty poorly in its previous match against Manchester United and had lost that match by 0-3. Sunderland had also been defeated by the same margin by Manchester City in its previous match.

The Newcastle team came into this match with all guns blazing. The score became 1-0 in the favour of Newcastle in the 2nd minute of the match. Yohan Cabaye was the player who found the net for Newcastle. The goal was set up by Demba Ba whose angular cross was capitalized on by the Cabaye. The Frenchman provided the finishing touch wonderfully and Newcastle got ahead in the match. That was the one and only goal to be scored in the first half.

Newcastle managed to maintain its lead in the earlier part of the second half as well. Till the 85th minute of the match, Newcastle was ahead by 1-0. But, the Black Cats were in no mood to give up. They tried to build pressure on the Newcastle players which resulted in an own goal scored by Demba Ba in the 85th minute of the match. There were no more goals scored in the next 5 minutes and the match ended in a draw.

Newcastle United’s next match will be a Europa League encounter against Club Brugge at St. James’ Park.
